Digital Construction

We help you in your goal of improving and optimizing construction processes through the use of digital technology.

Keep up with the digital evolution

Re-imagining construction to improve people’s lives.

We look forward to the future

At DigitalEngWorks innovation is in our ADN. We promote the digitalization of constructive processes to make them much more efficient, cost-effective, safe and adaptable to change.

Multiple disciplines working all together

Always from an engineering point of view, combined with maths, algorithms, coding and 3d modeling allows us to provide unique solutions. Its all about working smart over working hard.

Soft skills still matter

But it is not all abouth hard skills. Effective communication and collaboration is key. We know the bussiness, listen (really listen) and work hard to bring new ideas to the table.

What makes DigitalEngWorks different

We create a unique solutions to solve specifics problem using all the available digital information; usually a combination of 2d and 3d models, tables and databases.

The use of algorithms through the computer programming code allows to simulate models and constructive processes with great accuracy, with the ability to change the geometry or any other parameter considered as soon as the value is modified. This greatly saves time for engineers, especially in the scheme design stage, and helps to quickly evaluate many possible solutions.

We can proudly say the we have more than 10 year experience applying this techniques in the mining and civil industry, even before the term Digital Engineering was used.

Some Case Studies

Bridge erection

This is the our most recent product. Our software LiftSim has been successfully used in the planning and the optimization for the construction of several large viaducts in Victoria. Often complicated by factors like the lack of space, surrounding objects or limited crane capacity.

LiftSim allows to parametrically simulate all steps from pick to place the load. It considers the construction sequence of the viaduct, the girder lifted, the truck or the stools and the rigging. Just in seconds, and using the in-built tools, the following parameters are calculated:

  • Crane capacity at every step.
  • If superlift counterweight is required. Radius and counterwight.
  • Minimum distance between the hook and the tip of the boom
  • Rigging details: slings length and angles.

If required, a hight detailed 3d model for the entire operation is automatically generated to be integrated with the surroundings (Design, survey, AsBuilts, Point cloud, Temporary works and more). Besides, a lift report is generated.

This methodology can replace the traditional use of 2d drawings. However, a tool to generate 2d drawings has been implemented too.

Besides, the main advantage of this parametric method is that all the inputs are stored as databases,  which can be updated simply by copying the data from a spreadsheet, including:

  • The construction sequence of the viaduct or superstructure.
  • The CoGs of the girders, weights and total hoisted load.
  • Crane model and configuration for each lift.
  • Lugs locations

LiftSim is currently in the process of been standarized and refined to be a reliable easy-to-use software.

Steel through girder installation

The problem consisted in been able to measure the potential clashes and tolerances of the external cross bracing during the installation of the steel through girders of a bridge in an early stage of the design.
A tool has been developed to built a numerical parametric model of a steel through girder bridge as per the design geometry tables. Then, several design parameters have been applied such as the precamber values and staged deflections and graphed, along with the cross brace design, to been able to measure all the tolerances along the structure.
